CCI purchased cotton worth ₹12,823 crore in Telangana

Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has procured 16.15 lakh tonnes of cotton from 8.80 lakh farmers in Telangana in the Kharif marketing season, with a total value of Rs 12,823 crore. The state grew cotton in more than 18.21 lakh hectares in 2025-26.

Telangana Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao said, “We are estimating that around 10 lakh tonnes of cotton is still left to be sold. We are expecting farmers to bring it to the CCI market yard in the next few days.”

delay in arrival

He blamed the delay in the harvest season for the late arrivals. He said CCI has agreed to open the procurement window till February 27 to help farmers clear the remaining produce.

He said, “We had written a letter to the central government explaining the reason for the delay and appealed to them to extend the procurement period.”

He said there was initial opposition from farmers and ginning mills to the new app introduced by the government, but the hurdles were removed. “The app facilitated smooth transactions as it eliminated long queues and wastage of time,” he said in a statement.
