The Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) has urged the Center to make a provision to allow seafood exports from India to the EU at “zero” duty rates and remove all non-trade barriers, so that shipments to the region can increase manifold in the coming years.
SEAI President G Pawan Kumar said this will help achieve the objective of market diversification of the industry and help Indian seafood gain a leading position in the EU market. “We seek the active support and assistance of the central government in this regard,” he said.
The association also appreciated the support given by the Commerce Ministry to the seafood exporter community after the imposition of higher tariffs by the US.
The listing of 102 new fisheries units by the EU has led to a substantial increase in exports to this important market.
Exports to the EU increased from 137,139 tonnes during April-November 2024 to 176,367 tonnes in the same period of the current year, registering a growth of 28 per cent in volume terms.
In value terms, exports grew by 37.8 per cent, from $716.95 million in April-November 2024 to $988.22 million during April-November 2025.
